Description
Echinacea is a genus of flowering plants in the daisy family, commonly called coneflowers. The name is derived from the Greek word meaning “sea urchin”, due to the spiny central disk.
Echinacea purpurea is used in traditional medicine for many different ailments. Echinacea angustifolia was widely used by the North American Indigenous peoples as folk medicine, including external application for insect bites, burns, wounds, chewing of roots for throat and tooth infections, and internal use for cough, pain, snake bites, and stomach cramps).
Many pollinators are attracted to Echinacea like bees, bumblebees, butterflies, and birds.
