Description
The family Asteraceae, alternatively Compositae, consists of thoursands of species of flowering plants in over 1,900 genera within the order Asterales. They are commonly referred to as the aster, daisy, or sunflower family. Sometimes hundreds of tiny individual florets are held together by protective involucres in flower heads.
Asteraceae is an important family, providing products such as cooking oils, leaf vegetables like lettuce, sunflower seeds, artichokes, sweetening agents, coffee substitutes, herbal medicine, and herbal teas.
